Cetacean Sisters

Come and connect with your science sisters.

Join one of our upcoming cetacean science workshops and join our community.

Engage in science and STEM workshops designed for female secondary students

Led by an experienced female cetacean scientist and teacher

Be inspired and deepen your knowledge of cetaceans and science

Connect with a passionate and supportive community of like-minded individuals

Join us for a series of five, two-hour workshops, held on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula on the shores of Port Phillip. Each workshop is designed to further your Science skills and your understanding of the cetaceans that can be observed in our local waters. Sessions are run by an experienced, local cetacean scientist and teacher who is passionate about sharing good science and mentoring future female scientists.

Science, and how it works

Working together, we create researchable questions – questions are the basis of good science. This session will help you understand how science works through a fun, hands-on process.

Identifying cetaceans

During this session, you’ll discover what to look for to identify the different cetacean species we may find in our local waters. You will also learn how as we scientists identify individual cetaceans and what we can do with this information.

How fieldwork works

Fieldwork – every cetacean scientist’s favourite part of the science process. This session details how we as scientists collect data in the field and provides you with an opportunity to experience land-based data collection for yourself.

Fin ID – STEM challenge

Emerging technologies provide us with a variety of ways to make tedious tasks quicker and simpler. How do you think we can improve the process of identifying individual cetaceans?

Cetacean Sister Mentors

As cetacean scientists, we all have different journeys but we have similar goals of wanting to work with cetaceans or other marine species. Hear our inspirational stories and begin your own journey to become a scientist.
